While the idea of texting one's boss used to be considered a faux pas, it has now become common practice simply due to the now widespread use of smartphones. Likewise, business VoIP has been embraced widely by organizations worldwide. Combining these two technologies is the logical next move to allow employees to text from their work numbers.
Fortunately, RingCentral (News - Alert) recently announced the industry's first SMS for business phone systems. The company's solution allows businesses to add text messages to the list of services available to employees through their business numbers, alongside calls and faxes. Business SMS will be available early next year at no additional cost as part of RingCentral's Office offering, while supporting iOS and Android (News - Alert) devices.
“Efficient and flexible communication is key as workforces become more mobile and distributed” said Vlad Shmunis, CEO and founder of RingCentral, in a statement. “Yet legacy hardware-based business phone systems haven’t kept pace with these needs. A case in point is that these systems do not let you use your business number for texting. Here at RingCentral we’re leveraging the cloud to create the high-productivity communication tools that businesses need to be successful.”
Advantages of RingCentral's Business SMS service include the ability to text customers, suppliers and co-workers using a business number, even on personal devices; text a department without needing every colleague's individual number; send texts across devices including smartphones, tablets and PCs; and track text, voice and fax messages in one location on mobile devices.
Earlier this year in April, RingCentral released its RingCentral Touch platform, which enables businesses to setup, manage and user their phone system from any smart mobile device, allowing IT administrators to easily configure the entire phone system from a smartphone or tablet. More importantly, it allows individual users to control their settings.
Recently, Voip-Info.org named RingCentral in a list of top-ranked VoIP providers based on customer reviews, price, features and service plans.
