SPIRIT DSP (News - Alert), a provider of software solutions for real-time voice and video communication over IP networks, has announced the company has developed and subsequently secured a patent for its wideband, fortified HD Voice codec. This codec can be used efficiently for the resilience of real-time video transmission over packet-lossy environments.
The IP-MR version of the HD codec is highly suitable to conduct video softphones and Web conferencing in Internet and wireless network environments.
In addition, the codec is developed for IP-networks, and has already been applied for use in MMO games and for videoconferencing software.
SPIRIT's IP-MR is a patent-free codec. Distributers and consumers don’t have to pay in order to use this codec and voice and video will be delivered in the crispest of formats.
Andrew Sviridenko, SPIRIT's chairman, said in a statement, “We are very pleased that after multiple commercial deployments with telcos the codec was adopted as a RFC by the IETF.”
The IP-MR codec also possesses the ability to work accordingly with the dynamic of a networks bandwidth. Depending on bit rates, number of participants and other factors, the IP-MR patent automatically adjusts to supply the best in quality while avoiding lag and degrading of voice quality. This codec has the ability to optimize accordingly, which is what makes the patent so substantial, as it assures that conveying of voice communications will always be at maximum. It can be combined with QoS networks, and the transmitted voice layers are prioritized and of high quality, even when network connections may suffer.
Earlier, SPIRIT's IP-MR codec was used by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and has since received an official patent. The codec is now widely available for all developers and devices that might find use for it. It is enabling interoperability of voice products and more.
