A Look at Some of the Best VoIP Ads of 2012

As we approach 2013, you're bound to see more than a few "best of” lists of 2012, particularly for subjects relating to the tech industry. While there are a number of lists detailing the best products and services from manufacturers and service providers, one area that's often overlooked is advertising. recently named the five best business VoIP ads from the year just past.

First up, Nextiva's campy ad, "Nextiva Amazing Service," features the catchy music of Jonathan Mann, a native of Berkeley, California, who has vowed to create a song every day. Mann has written about Nextiva in the past in his 284th song of the day in which he sings about Nextiva vFAX. Both songs are surprisingly catchy, but "Nextiva Amazing Service" really takes it home with a video full of goofy visual effects, funny lyrics about how Nextiva provides something better than pumpkin pie, and an undeniably catchy chorus hook.

Next, RingCentral's (News - Alert) commercial for its Business SMS service wins a mention more for being extremely informative, providing an accurate picture as to how exactly this service might revolutionize the way business is done in just two minutes. It really does hit all the right points, using the example of a mortgage broker named Alex helping a client named Julie to give a pretty complete picture of what RingCentral Business SMS can do.

Likewise, Phonebooth manages to use simple but effective animation to demonstrate how easy its OnDemand Business Phone (News - Alert) Solution is to setup. In other words, if you're still not 100 percent clear on what "plug and play" means, you should be after watching this short spot.

Jive Communications also gets its message across succinctly. Except, instead of cartoons, the company employs slick graphics, word animation and tight narration to make it clear just what kind of service its customers can expect and how this service is an improvement over competitors.

Lastly, Vonage plays on the clichéd "welcome to the neighborhood" scenario on their Don't Get Bundled commercial. This commercial isn't as tightly packed with information as others on this list, but it's funny and gets its point across clearly.
